The Moon & The Sea by Matthew Allen
Pushing and pulling the limitless sea,
the moon gives in the morn what it takes in the eve.
The sea doesn’t dawdle or idle or swoon,
with help from the wind it runs fast from the moon.
And reaching the shore with a fit and a spit,
the sea forms a wave and the moon keeps it lit.
Crashing and rolling, scrambling up sand,
The sea gets away but the moon has a plan.
When the sea thinks he's safe and rolls back to his friends,
The moon pulls at the sea in the evening again.
Southern California artist Matthew Allen sources vintage sails and marine canvas and brings them new life as pieces of art. This "The Moon & The Sea" wall hanging was salvaged and printed with a hand carved linocut print.
A former Surfer Magazine Art Director, Matthew is also the co-creator of the now retired boutique surf brand The Ryde. Much of his fine art and photography revolves around beach and surf culture. Matthew spends his days shooting photos and making art as well as creating illustrations for clients such as Ford Motor Company, Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn, Ron Herman, Champion, Vans, Bon Appetit, Food and Wine, and the Anaheim Ducks. Most of his other waking hours are spent surfing and making music.
