Surfing Art Print "Rebirth"

All proceeds from the sales of this print go to City Surf Project. Thank you to Chelsea Woody, Textured Waves and photographer @hippyvibestomper for the inspiration.

The women at Textured Waves are shining a light on the contributions of, and the opportunities for, woman of color as valuable members of the surfing community. An image of Chelsea inspired me to create this piece of art which for me represents surfing as a pathway towards empowerment for women of color as they break down stereotypes and commune with nature. Water instead of blood. Peace instead of violence. Rebirth in, through and on the ocean. Sublime communion and sublime exhaustion.

This artwork is a reproduction of Southern California artist Matthew Allen's surf art. The former Surfer Magazine Art Director is also the co-creator of the now retired boutique surf brand The Ryde. Much of his fine art and photography revolves around beach and surf culture. Matthew spends his days shooting photos and making art as well as creating illustrations for clients such as UNIQLO, Ford Motor Company, Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn, Ron Herman, Champion, Vans, Bon Appetit, Food and Wine, and the Anaheim Ducks. Most of his other waking hours are spent surfing and making music.
