Southern California artist Matthew Allen sources vintage sails and marine canvas and brings them new life as pieces of art. The main part of this mixed media "Only Light" wall hanging was cut from a salvaged kite bag. The circles were cut from the bottom of sail bags and sewn on. In line with his Echoes Above The Sea Artwork, Matthew used pencil and linocut printing to finish the piece.
A former Surfer Magazine Art Director, Matthew is also the co-creator of the now retired boutique surf brand The Ryde. Much of his fine art and photography revolves around beach and surf culture. Matthew spends his days shooting photos and making art as well as creating illustrations for clients such as Ford Motor Company, Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn, Ron Herman, Champion, Vans, Bon Appetit, Food and Wine, and the Anaheim Ducks. Most of his other waking hours are spent surfing and making music.
